Kerala Samajam, Durg, established in 1978, is a premier socio cultural organization of Chhattisgarh. During the 35 years of its existence, the Samajam has endeavored to enrich the social and cultural life of Chhattisgarh and to effectively project the art and culture of Kerala to the people of the state while harmoniously fusing it with the local tradition and traits and culture.
The objective of the Samajam is to promote and uphold universal brotherhood, mutual trust and national integration with special emphasis on cultural integration, without any barrier of religion, caste, creed, social status and political inclinations or bias and has been forstering a sense of fraternity amongst the people. Through the three decades, the Samajam has grown into one of the biggest social organisations of the region, with 2100 life members of its base line.

The "All India Music, Dance and Chhattisagrhi Folk Dance Competition" the musical front is open for Patriotic group songs. Dance competition is open for any Indian Regional folk Dances like Thiruvathira, Oppana, Margamkali Group Dance, Folk Dance group (Gujrati, Marathi, Punjabi, Bhojpuri, Rajasthani) etc. Cinematic dance/semi classical (solo & group) categories. thousands of artists from various parts of the country have successfully participated in teh competition and won laurels and wernt back with glorius memories.

The programme is scheduled to be held from 24th to 28th of Septemper 2017 at S.N.G, A.C. Auditorium, Str. No.-29 Sector-4, Bhilai, Durg (C.G.). The venue, S.N.G, A.C. Auditorium is situated at 08 kms distance from Railway Station - Durg Junction in the Kolkata - Mumbai Route, 09 kms from the Durg Bus Stand & 40 km from Raipur Airport. Durg Railway Station is connected with direct trains from almost all state capitals and is 4 hours journey from Nagpur, for which frequent Trains and Buses are available.


Traditional Dance and Music forms of Chhattisgarh:

Folk arts of the state, which encapsulate the smell of the soil, are very colorful and energetic and lift one to a different plane of enchantment. This is one of the main attractions to the artists from outside the state.

Durg is rich in its cultural heritage and has its own dance styles, cuisine, music forms. The Panthi is the most renowned dance form of the state, which is a rigorous, vibrant dance form with loud drum beats and cymbals played by the dancers themselves. All the postures of the dance represent forms of worship to the saint- Sant Ghasi Das. Pandwani the musical narration of the epic Mahabharata, is another world renowned dance form of the state, while Raut Nacha and Soowa nacha are some popular art forms of the state. Durg's most famous and popular folk plays are Chandaini-Gonda, Sonha-Bihan, Lorik-Chanda, Kari, Hareli, Gammatiha. Rahas is a modern folk drama of Durg. True to the spirit of these art forms, the people of this region are very fond of colors. The dresses they wear are very colorful and traditional. Women wear sarees with Kardhani. In rural areas women wear Mala made of coins.

Late Devdas Banjare, who hails from the village Dhanora, near Durg, and in whose memory the "All India Music, Dance and Chhattisgarhi Folk Dance Competition" is organised, is an internationally reputed artist of the region. He has won the President's Award for his contributions to the art form and has visited more than 64 countries.

Teejan Bai, the world renowned Pandwani artist who made the state and the nation proud with her achievements, hails from Durg. She was honoured Padmashree for her contribution to Pandwani, and later bestowed the honour of padmabhushan. Another Pandwani artist is Ritu Verma who is also one of the best exponents of this art form. Similarly, Shri Asif and Shri Tushar Waghela, who have displayed their paintings at various Art Galleries in India and bagged many awards, are two National level artists in the field of Painting who hail from this area.
